After much gluing, cutting and sticking I did what I set out to do and made a couple of cups and saucers. The better one has petal shaped overlapping pieces of paper and they are both surprisingly sturdy. I actually cut a piece from Selvedge magazine to make one saucer and felt a bit naughty about it. But I did read the bit I was cutting out and it mentioned both Etsy and Folksy. The article pointed out that it is not such a good idea to sell through shops as they take such a large cut, which is true, but at least they sell!

That's nice. And I have now started to use some off cuts that Rosie has given me - roses on a black background. Interesting and not quite so pink and sugary. Like these felt balls...

What did the article suggest one sells through then, because it's a lot cheaper than selling through a gallery (which would take a massive cut) and - especially Etsy - provide a great set of tools to sell through. Of course, it IS possible to set up your own site and sell through that, but then, there isn't the ready traffic to drive through it, nor the high profile. And, I don't think Etsy (or even Folksy, though they are higher) do take a bit cut at all. Do I sound annoyed? Just a bit! As you say, at least things sell through both sites - sounds a bit woolly thinking to me.
(So I think the article was far better used as a nice saucer!)
like so many things in Selvedge...it looks fabulous, the graphics are great but the writing doesn't seem to belong in the real world..
also the sheer numbers on Etsy is staggering - something like 8 million users. Eek. I would be lost.
